12-Day | 11-Night AMBOSELI – MASAI MARA SAFARI PHOTOGRAPHY WORKSHOP

This 12-Day|11-Night Amboseli – Masai Mara Safari Photography Workshop is organized by Safari Photo Studio and is led by renowned award-winning wildlife photographer Johan Siggesson. This Safari Photography Workshop will give you a unique wildlife photography experience. This small group workshop is limited to only three photographers. Johan will provide in-depth, hands-on instructions and guidance on the best techniques for capturing stunning wildlife images in their natural habitat. This Safari Photography Workshop will be run inside the Amboseli National Park and Mara Triangle.

Amboseli National Park is renowned for its incredible elephant population, including some of the largest tuskers left in Africa. It is also known for its stunning scenery, with the snow-capped peak of Mt. Kilimanjaro towering in the background. The big tuskers of Amboseli National Park are legendary. These magnificent African elephants boast exceptionally long, thick tusks that can reach the ground, earning them the nickname “super tuskers.” They are not only a sight to behold but also hold immense ecological and cultural significance.

Located on the Mara River’s western bank, the Mara Triangle is known for its dense wildlife population. It is a great place to see the Big Five (lion, leopard, elephant, buffalo, and rhino) and other animals in their natural habitat. The Mara Triangle is also less crowded than other Masai Mara National Reserve areas, which means you can enjoy a more exclusive Safari Wildlife photography experience.

In this Amboseli – Masai Mara Safari Photography Workshop, led by renowned wildlife photographer Johan Siggesson, and our expert guide who has a wealth of experience in tracking and locating wildlife in Amboseli National and Masai Mara National Reserves. You will learn how to approach wildlife safely and respectfully, while taking pictures in close range. It is important to remember that wildlife should be treated with respect. The workshop will emphasize the importance of ethical wildlife photography, ensuring that you don’t disturb or stress the animals in any way.

You can learn from other photographers in the group, share your own experiences, and receive feedback on your work. The workshops are all=inclusive and include accommodation, meals, game drives, and instruction. They are a great way for photographers of all levels to improve their skills and learn more about safari wildlife photography.

PHOTOGRAPY INSTRUCTOR

“Seeing is only the first step in the creative process. Experiencing what I see and conveying it to You is where the creation becomes engaging.
With nature as an eternal source of inspiration, I create works where my impressions of my surroundings are expressed on paper. Creating harmony of the uninterrupted complexity that exists in nature is stimulating and inspiring.
Although my images have different motives and have been created using different techniques in the camera, all images are permeated with respect and reverence for the, sometimes very fragile, nature that surrounds us.” ~ Johan Siggesson

Johan Siggession is a wildlife photographer from Sweden residing on the small Mediterranean island of Malta.  From an early, Johan was passionate about animals and the natural world.  Before Animal Planet, Nat. Geo Wild and the likes, he was always guided in front of the weekly nature program on Swedish state television.  No matter if it was lions in Africa, wolves in Yellowstone or Polar bears in Svalbard, Johan practically grew up with Sir David Attenborough’s voice at the back of his head.

From the moment he bought his first digital camera, I was hooked.  The creativity that is unleased with instant feedback on the screen, variable ISO and more or less unlimited image capacity is something that really appeals to him.  This, combined with a passion for animals, is a recipe for a wildlife photographer.

When he is not out photographing or stuck in from of his Mac processing images, Johan enjoys a good meal or watching a game of soccer with friends… and a cold beer.  Johan hopes that you like viewing his images just as much as he enjoyed taking them!

In early 2019, Johan was one of the fortunate to be accepted into Sweden’s most prestigious nature photography association called Naturfotograferna/N.  A great honour!

TYPICAL DAY ON SAFARI

Our professional guides are there to assist you every step of the way.  Even though there is a general outline of your safari, your guide will talk with you regarding each day’s plans.  He will tell you about the country you are visiting, its history, traditions, the area you are visiting, what you see; he will take you to the loveliest places, look after any formalities or negotiations with the local people, and take care of your safety and comfort. They all are proficient in bush craft, and can also tell you about the local traditions, wildlife, identify the birds, and help you learn more about the world around you. All our guides speak English as well as their local language and some speak French and Spanish as well. Days will vary depending on your specific schedule, road conditions, and what you would like to do. A typical day may unfold like this:

You will get up before dawn when hot coffee and tea are served.  The air is cold as the sun rises and shimmers on the open plains.  This is the best time to see the wildlife.  Your camera is ready to go and you have layered your clothing to keep you warm.  Head into the bush and search for lions, elephant, giraffe and plains game.   Each turn will offer something unique – a lioness and her cubs, a herd of elephant moving to a waterhole, a cheetah stalking a gazelle.  Your morning game drive lasts about two hours, depending on what you see.  Return to the lodge for a delicious breakfast.  After breakfast there is time to relax from being up at sunrise or now is the time to participate in any additional activities that the lodge may offer – such as walks, village visits, or bike rides.

Lunch is usually served in camp/lodge, unless you are out for a full day’s game drive, when they will have a picnic lunch.  You will head out again in the afternoon; searching for the special species that may have eluded you.  As the sun sets, return to camp for a hot shower. Then indulge in a delicious dinner and after dinner drinks in the lounge. There may also be a chance to sit around the campfire exchanging tales of the bush. Everyone retires early with great anticipation of the next day’s adventure!

When you are out on safari your schedule is flexible at most locations; however, some locations have set times for game drives or walks.  You can always talk with the hosts of the camps/lodge to adjust schedules and they will try to accommodate you.  The restriction will be to stay within park rules and travel times required to get you to your destination.  Your guides will always give their recommendations but are there to listen to your needs.
